Goddard Weekly Campaign Update for Oct 3rd

Arizona Republic Endorses Terry Goddard for Secretary of State!

The Republic wrote that Terry “has extensive leadership experience”, “far better prepared” and “known for integrity, doggedness.”

The campaign started running its first ad of the general election earlier this week. It highlights Terry’s record of treating everyone fairly, something State Senator Reagan did not do with  her vote for SB1062, the right to discriminate bill.

In an Arizona Republic story earlier this week, Reagan campaign manager Kyle Moyer insisted that those who voted in favor of SB1062 did not fully understand the bill’s impacts. Reagan, too, has made this claim, conclusively disproved by an Arizona Republic Fact Check.

In a web video released today by the Goddard campaign, state Sen. Steve Gallardo directly challenges state Sen. Michele Reagan’s claim:  “I sat right next to Michele Reagan on the floor of the Arizona state Senate,” says Gallardo. “We asked her to vote against it, she decided not to. She said that she wanted to vote for it.”

“Senator Michele Reagan continues to support these bills that separate and divide our state. We don’t need that from a Secretary of State,” Gallardo says. “We need someone who can bring everyone together, someone who can be trusted as our Secretary of State. That’s why I support Terry Goddard.”

The response to the Fairness ad was very good.  For example, in the Republic:

"If you're going to establish credibility in the election system in Arizona, you have to emphasize no one is discriminated against," said Terry Goddard- AZ Central

This week also included a roll out of the names of Business, Community, and Law Enforcement leaders from across the state. Because Terry emphasizes that the Secretary of State must be outside of partisan politics, no party affiliations are given, but the list includes a healthy mix of Republicans, Democrats and Independents.
