“The Arizona we want is not the Arizona we’re getting.”

PHOENIX –Terry Goddard will file papers today with the Secretary of State’s office, officially making him a candidate for that office.

“A year ago, if you had told me that I’d be running for office this year, I would not have believed you,” said Goddard. “But, if you told me a year ago that there would be the kind of assault on voter rights we have seen here in Arizona, I would not have believed that either.”

Goddard, the former two term Attorney General and Mayor of Phoenix, decided to run for Secretary of State, in part due to the stream of unwise, unnecessary legislation intended to restrict Arizonans’ access to their voting rights. “Bills like HB 2305 threaten important voter rights. Others like SB 1062 hold us up to national ridicule. I am running so I can help restore Arizona to be the nationally respected, innovative and moderate state it has been for most of its 102 years.”

Ridding the state of the dark money plaguing Arizona’s political system is also top priority for Goddard, as well. “As Arizona’s chief law enforcement officer for eight years, I investigated and prosecuted money laundering in many forms. I have sent money launderers to prison and seized millions of dollars of laundered cash. Dark money is another form of money laundering.”

Goddard will spend the day speaking with the media and attending campaign events in Pima County. He will return for his Campaign Kickoff Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at his downtown Phoenix campaign office.

Goddard for Secretary of State Campaign Kickoff 502 W. Roosevelt St. Phoenix, AZ Friday, March 7 Open House 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Brief Remarks 6:00 p.m.
